News programs are the basis of Channel One broadcasting. The efficiency, accuracy and objectivity of Channel One’s news programs secure a captive audience. Channel One’s daily broadcasting starts with a morning news program at 5 a.m. At 9 p.m. Moscow time the program “Vremya”, an undisputed news leader for more than thirty years, hits the airwaves. Nightly news reports sum up the events of the day. Vladimir Pozdner’s debate-style program “Vremena” and the analytical “Voskresnoe Vremya” review the week’s events.

News can be different. This is vividly illustrated by the news program “Drugiye Novosti”, which is broadcast on weekdays. Its topics are dedicated not only to the issues of the day — quality of life, ecology, sport and leisure — but also to intriguing and amusing happenings that can’t be fit into the news bulletins of Channel One.

Modern real-life problems are discussed in the publicaffairs programs of Channel One, among which you’ll find the daily talk shows of Lolita Milyavskaya (“Bez Kompleksov”) and Andrei Malakhov (“Pust’ Govoryat...”), at the top of the popularity charts.

Channel One’s documentaries reveal the nooks and crannies of Russian history and contemporary life; among them is “Tajny Veka”, "Kreml’-9“, “Chelovek i Zakon” and others. Journalistic investigations, reconstructions and unique footage, which distinguish the documentaries of Channel One, have made this part of broadcasting one of the most widely acclaimed by the Russian audience.
